Illich at 100: local celebrations

One of Ivan Illich's earliest books was called A Celebration of Awareness. In a conversation recorded towards the end of his life, he spoke about the sense of proportionality that can be cultivated "when we get together around spaghetti and a glass of wine".
In this spirit, we invite you to join us in hosting a local gathering to mark what would have been Ivan's 100th birthday.
The day itself is Friday 4 September, so we suggest getting together at some point over the weekend of 4-6 September 2026.
You can use this form to:
1. Tell us about a gathering you are organising
2. Offer to be a local contact for those in your area who would like to gather
You don't have to claim any expertise in order to be part of this – it's enough to be curious about Illich's work and have a desire to get together with others who share that curiosity.
And your gathering can be a simple shared meal, a discussion or readings from Illich's work, or anything else that makes sense, given where you're starting from.
Based on the information you provide, we will add you to the map we are setting up on the school called HOME website, where others can find your listing and get in touch.
